Not a Catchword

We all surely remember the phrase – ‘October – the month of saving’. I am not going to advocate for this kind of appeals in particular when perceived as a campaign.

One cannot be good for animals only one day a year, or well-behaved once per annum etc. There is one thing coming to my mind at this point – it is common in our company to complain about the power plant budgets being too small especially in case of modernization and repair budgets, that there are no sufficient resources to cover all matters that are of concern to the personnel. Yet we are living in given circumstances. In order to develop we need to save not only during one month a year but year after year. Are we really doing so?

When planning new investments we are choosing best solutions which might seem very costly. Why might? Because in the long time perspective – there no other perspective as far as power sector investments are concerned – they will bring substantial savings. The best example is the repowering program underway in PKE SA. Replacing old, worn-out power units with new, cutting-edge ones we do save. Such savings will cause lower emissions, more economic electric energy generation, possibilities to use broader spectrum of fuels available at lower prices. Units which are planned currently will meet all required emission limits with as significant margin. Thus even in the perspective of a dozen or so years from now when the regulation are more stringent we will not be forced to invest in expensive installation enabling the continuation of electric energy generation. Is it not saving?

But everyone can save. Rationalizations and improvements implemented by our workers have brought significant savings more than once. I ardently encourage to do so – let us all feel true managers of our company. It is our common great budget – if there is more money in it then the budgets of particular power plants will be more ‘optimistic’, it will be easier to conclude investment processes and automatically save at a bigger scale.
