As every year, on December 4th we will celebrate Saint Barbara’s Day together with the miners. On this day, I wish the entire mining society all the best as well as endurance in their difficult and dangerous work.
Last year marked the tenth anniversary since the moment we commenced the process of setting up the fuel and power group as the first ones in the country. When we made the decision to join Jaworzno power industry entities with former Jaworzno Coal Mine, the idea was strongly criticized.
Critical opinions were given not only by the experts. Our plans were perceived with great reserve by our colleagues from the mining and power industries as well as by politicians. We did make use of the Jaworzno coal mine potential despite the fact it was to go into liquidation. By means of extra capitalization we carried out thorough technical and organizational restructuring which was completed with great success. Pursuant to the strategy of PKE Capital Group to consolidate next coal mines we took over the Janina Coal Mine in Libiąż. Basing on these two entities, in 2005 Południowy Koncern Węglowy (PKW) was established, which at present is a modern company. Integration of both sectors – mining and power industry – became a fact and PKW is the biggest company of PKE Capital Group. Nowadays we are given as the example of a right decision which led to the establishment of a fuel and power company.
The mining and power industry is one coherent, mutually dependent and closely connected sector and the cooperation of Południowy Koncern Energetyczny with Południowy Koncern Węglowy is the best example of such.
I am of the opinion that brave, non-standard and very often pioneer decisions are required. These serve as the drive for the progress. In business as well as in private life – one cannot stand still. Those who remain still in fact move back. Let us seek new solutions and take up challenges!
