Eight men’s and two women’s teams participated in 23rd Power Industry Championships which were held in Jaworzno from 3rd to 6th September and organized by ‘Energetyk’ Sports Club. Altogether there were 94 competitors.
The Municipal Culture and Sports Center hosted the Championships. The matches were organized in accordance with the regulations of the Polish Volleyball Association. Men’s teams were competing in two groups where the matches were played round robin to two won sets. The number of points won, the ratio of won-lost matches and the ratio of ‘small points’ in all sets were decisive in establishing the ranking in the qualifying round.
Energa Operator SA division in Olsztyn Team with the line-up: Leszek Grabowski, Bogdan Grzybowski, Grzegorz Kamiński, Kamil Kaska, Jacek Kuligowski, Paweł Kupicz, Andrzej Łaszczuk, Jacek Majchrzak, Mariusz Miechowicz, Tomasz Pszczółkowski, Marcin Rusak, Dariusz Szyćko, Adam Werpechowski and Dariusz Wilczekwon the 2009 Champions Title. In the final round the team from Olsztyn beat 2:0 (25:20, 25:22) the Polish power industry volleyball titans, multiple Champions of Poland – the team of Poludniowy Koncern Energetyczny. According to the unanimous opinion of the spectators the matches were played at a very high level and the final brought together two strongest teams of this year’s championships. PGE Łódzki Zakład Energetyczny SA and PGE Dystrybucja Łódź took the third place in the tournament.
