Visitors from the European Commission Directorate General for the Environment

Poludniowy Koncern Energetyczny hosted guests from the European Commission Directorate General for the Environment – Jos Delbeke – Deputy-Director General in the EU Directorate general for the Environment, Marianne Wenning from the Department of Climate Change in the Directorate general, Piotr Tulej – head of the ‘Energy and Environment’ Department and Scott Brocket – both from the Directorate General for the Environment. The meeting was held on September 11, 2009.

On September 10, the representatives of the European Commission had a meeting with the Minister of Environment Professor Maciej Nowicki. The subject of the talks concerned the works on the realization of 2009/29/EC. Apart from the aforementioned Directive amending 2003/87/EC Directive in order to improve and enlarge the Union emission trade system the discussions also concerned the plans for the construction of 12 demonstration installations to develop the CCS method.

Visit in the 460 MW power unit of Lagisza power Plant was the part of the meeting. The power Plant Manager – Jan Rogóż and the head engineer responsible for technology – Waldemar Ostrowski presented the installation to the guests. Jos Delbeke as well as the rest of the delegation asked numerous questions concerning the unit construction stage and the impact it has on the natural environment.

The second part of the visit took place in PKE SA Head Office and was devoted to the presentation of Poludniowy Koncern Energetyczny SA, Tauron Polska Energia SA and ZAK SA. Chairmen of the companies listed above personally presented the firms: Jan Kurp, Stanisław Tokarski and Krzysztof Jałosiński respectively. The last part of the meeting was the presentation of ‘Poligeneration Power Plant with CCS, Kedzierzyn Demonstration Project’.
