A contract for the retrofit of six boilers type OP – 650k operating in Jaworzno III Power Plant to meet the standards on lower nitrogen oxides emission was concluded on July 28, 2010 between Południowy Koncern Energetyczny SA and a consortium of companies Fortum Power and Heat Oy and Zakłady Remontowe Energetyki Katowice SA.
The contract value amounts to over PLN 220 million and it is the biggest contract as far as the nitrogen oxides emission reduction projects in Polish power plants are concerned.
The contract conclusion with Fortum consortium and ZRE Katowice is yet another significant phase in our environment protection program we have been carrying out in Południowy Koncern Energetyczny SA for many years. In Jaworzno III Power Plant, after the construction of the flue gas desulphurizing installation and solving the problems connected with ash it is high time we commenced investments which will significantly reduce the nitrogen oxides emission. Environment protection undertakings require enormous financial outlays. However, it goes without saying that this money is well spent. It is not only about the necessity to meet the emission requirements set by the European Union. It is our pursuit for healthier environment for us and for the future generations. I am convinced that our cooperation with Fortum and ZRE will be professional and model and the contract will be carried out as per schedule, said Jan Kurp, PKE Management Board Chairman having signed the relevant documents.
Heikki Andersson, Vice-chairman of Power Division in Fortum Group, expressed highly positive opinion with regard to the investment in question. Fortum thinks highly of the professional approach and commitment of the entire Tauron Group and PKE as a part of the aforementioned Group concerning the issues of the natural environment protection. Outlays spent on projects aiming at the reduction of hazardous gases and improvement of installation effectiveness are best examples of this approach. The contract we have just concluded is of great importance to Fortum. On one hand, it confirms our long-term cooperation and on the other, it proves that our products are still competitive, says Heikki Andersson. In the second half of 1990s, Fortum was the company to install low-emission burners on six Jaworzno III power units. These burners are still in operation.
The burners to be installed with the entire combustion installation as per the present contract, are the most cutting-edge types. They will enable the power plant to meet more stringent requirements concerning nitrogen oxides emissions, emphasizes Heikki Andersson.
This contract is one of the first however it is the biggest one as far as the value and nitrogen oxides reduction level are concerned, says Stanisław Borawski, Fortum Power Solutions Sales Manager in the Technical Division who actively participated in the PKE – Fortum contract drawing up.
11 companies placed their bids in the tender won by the consortium Fortum Power and Heat Oy and ZRE Katowice SA. Both Fortum and ZRE cooperated during the combustion installation retrofit projects. Within the framework of the present consortium, Fortum is responsible for technological solutions and the provision of basic facilities. ZRE, on the other hand, is in charge of the domestic supplies and the execution of the entire assembly works. The contract realization will be commenced this year and concluded in February 2016.
