The Silesian Theater celebrated its 102nd anniversary in October last year. The anniversary served as an excellent opportunity to award those who supported this cultural institution to a greatest extent.
After the play ‘Taming of the Shrew’ on the Big Stage there was a traditional celebration during which the Silesian Theatre patrons and friends received the awards.
The sculpture of Pegasus was awarded to Mr. Jan Kurp, Chairman of Południowy Koncern Energetyczny SA Management Board, ‘The Silesian Theatre Patron’ drawings were awarded to: Henryk Tymowski , Vice-chairman of PKE SA Management Board who is also the Head of the Silesian Theatre Economy Committee and Stanisław Wiacek, Energoinstal SA Katowice Management Board Chairman, member of the Patrons Council.
Initiated by Krystyna Szaraniec, the Silesian Theatre Director, the Silesian Theatre Economy Committee was established 13 years ago when the institution was facing closing down. Apart from financial support concerning the theatre needs, the Council serves the role of an advisor, organizes celebrations and events. Is also supports the purchase of materials and equipment, finances repairs and modernizations but above all, lobbies for the Theatre in the region and in the country scale.
Henryk Tymowski , the Head of the Silesian Theatre Economy Committee, when interviewed by the Dziennik Teatralny talked about the Council establishment and role in the following way: ‘In societies which are well-established financially, supporting art by the entrepreneurs is not a burden but a privilege. Adding splendor and meaning, such a support creates the company image. 13 years ago such type of activity was merely beginning.’
