In the Sejm, PKE SA and ZAK Kedzierzyn, as entrepreneurs, gave a presentation on the idea of the poligeneration power plant construction with regard to the Polish power sector adjustment to the EU requirements related to the CO2 emission reduction.

Jaworzno III Power Plant was awarded Złoty Laur (the Golden Laurel) for the 2008 Best Polish Company. ‘Laurels of Skills and Competences’ ceremony was held in Dom Muzyki i Tańca in Zabrze. The Laurels Chapter awarded Jaworzno III Power Plant for the implementation of cutting edge technological solutions, application of professional management methods, effective soliciting of European Union resources for the investments concerning the sustainable electric energy generation as well as model cooperation with local milieu.

February 15
First electric energy generated in the new 460 MW Power Unit in Łagisza Power Plant was sent to the grid. At 9:09 p.m. the new power unit was synchronized with the National Distribution Grid. All works were carried out in accordance with the schedule.

February 21
In Pałac Kultury Zagłębia located in Dąbrowa Górnicza, Jan Kurp, the Chairman of Południowy Koncern Energetyczny SA Management Board, was awarded the ‘Manager Of Zagłębie’ honorary title.

April
Południowy Koncern Energetyczny SA together with the University of Technology in Częstochowa were selected with other 13 power companies and higher schools from entire Europe (among others Spain, Portugal, Finland) to participate in the 7th Flagship Program of the European Union in the field of Energy.

PKE SA Jaworzno III Power Plant was the laureate of the Silesian Quality Award. Tomasz Żyła received the award from the Members of the European Parliament -Genowefa Grabowska, Jan Olbrycht, Małgorzata Handzlik and Tadeusz Donocik – the Chairman of the Regional Chamber of Commerce.

May 12
460 MW Łagisza Power Plant Power Unit 720-hour long Test Run was commenced at 11:00 p.m. The initiation of the test run, being the final stage of the construction process, followed the execution of successfully completed adjustment tests.

June 6
Jaworzno III Power Plant hosted FotoDej 7.0. Silesian FotoDej is a periodic event organized in the region by MMSilesia portal. Over 100 ardent photographers took pictures on site of Jaworzno III.

June 27
460 MW Power Unit Commissioning Protocol was signed in Łagisza Power Plant. The protocol was signed by the committee chaired by Leszek Wiśniowski – PKE SA Director for Overhauls and Retrofit with the participation of the contract engineer (Energopomiar Sp. z o.o. Gliwice) as well as the start-up consortium: Energotechnika Sp. z o.o. and Remak Rozruch SA.

July 2
Parliamentary Group on Energy met during a sitting held in Będzin. Parliament members visited, among others, the investment in Łagisza Power Plant – the new 460 MW Power Unit. After the presentation on the new power unit and the visit to Jaworzno III Power Plant the visitors participated in the meeting where they discussed the issues related to the power sector operation both in the country and in Europe. Tauron Group Strategy adopted at the end of 2008 was also presented to the visitors.

Południowy Koncern Energetyczny SA was awarded the Key to Success during 11th science and technology conference ‘Bełchatów Energy 2009’ held in Bełchatów.

PKE SA hosted the representatives of the European Committee on Environment: Jos Delbeke - Deputy Director-General for the Environment, Marianne Wenning – from the Climate Change Department of the Directorate General on Environment, Piotr Tulej – head of ‘Energy and Environment’ Department of the Directorate General on Environment, and Scott Brocket from the Directorate General on Environment.

October 22-23
Tauron Group investment plans and experiences from the construction and operation of the newly built 460 MW power unit in Łagisza Power Plant’ – this is the title of the conference held in Południowy Kocern Energetyczny Łagisza Power Plant. The conference was organized by the Polish Chamber of Power Industry and Environment Protection. It gathered many representatives of the power industry and related branches. More than 100 persons listened to the presentations.

November 18
Jaworzno III Power Plant was awarded The White Tiger Energy Award 2008 for the modernization of the Flue Gas Desulfurizing Installation, the construction of the 3rd line of flue gas desulfurizing installation for power units no 3 and 4 as well as for the construction of the ash settling tank. These prestigious awards were given for the 13th time by the Energy Promotion Agency and the ‘Energy’ magazine.

December 18
The Extraordinary Assembly of the Shareholders sitting in Jaworzno passed a resolution on the erection of 50 MW power unit operating in cogeneration in Bielsko-Biała Heat and Power Plant EC1.

December 29
Contract conclusion between Południowy Koncern Energetyczny SA and Polimex-Mostostal SA for the construction of a new unit in Bielsko-Biała Heat and Power Plant EC1.

December 31
Long-term contract conclusion (from 2010 to 2014) with Kompania Węglowa for the supply of coal to PKE SA. During 5 years Kompania Węglowa will supply power plants of Południowy Koncern Energetyczny (PKE) with coal of the value circa PLN 4.3 billion that is PLN 860 million annually.
