Signing of the document handing Łaziska Power Plant Power Engineering School Complex over to the poviat self-government took place on March 10 in the County Administrator’s Office in Mikołów.
The document was signed by Joachim Adamczyk –PKE SA Łaziska Power Plant Managing Director, Jerzy Moryc – Deputy Director responsible for Human Resources and Henryk Jaroszek – Staroste of the city of Mikołów and Henryk Zawiszowski – the Deputy Staroste.
The document we signed today is to serve, above all, the local community, especially the local youths, said Joachim Adamczyk. The learning conditions provided by the poviat will be better, as far as the infrastructure is concerned. With great sadness but also sentiment we ended a certain stage. A stage when Łaziska Power Plant had its own vocational high school for over 50 years. Our school takes pride in having merits as far as educating power industry workers not only for our plant and on the national scale is concerned. Yet, this is the natural order of things as from now on the power plant, being a part of the stock exchange listed company, needs to focus entirely on the generation of electrical energy and pass the issues regarding the education to the poviat authorities.
It was not an easy decision but I am convinced that our students and teachers will have better conditions for learning and work in a new location.
I wish to emphasize great involvement of the local authorities who did their best to organize this takeover in the most efficientt manner not to hinder the learning process and not to disturb the interested parties namely the students and the teachers. The signing of the document handing the school over to the starosty was certainly preceded by the consent of the Południowy Koncern Energetyczny SA executives in the form of the Management Board resolution and the approval of Tauron Polska Energia SA. It is a model solution for the future functioning of the Power Engineering School Complex. It will contribute to more efficient utilization of the existing poviat accommodation resources. I want to emphasize the fact that the document we signed today does not end the involvement of Łaziska Power Plant in the educational issues. The Power Plant obliged that at least till 2014 – i.e. till the end of today’s first graders schooling – it will execute training on the plant site. We will also hand over the equipment of our school to a new location. This is a certain sort of financial input from the power plant in the future functioning of the school and teaching students vocational subjects. It is also possible that in the future we will be able to sponsor particular classes or sign work contracts for the future work with school graduates.
Our expectations were met, said Henryk Jaroszek, we had a specific proposal for the power plant or to be more correct for the school itself. We even changed the name of the school into Power Engineering and Servicing School Complex to keep and continue the 50-year long tradition of the school. The school will educate students in the same professions. We also guarantee work in the new school for all the teachers. And we wish to assure everybody that from September 2011 we will have first grades open in the new school located at Chopin Street in Łaziska Górne.
There has been no decision made concerning the sports facilities in the old location: the gymnasium and the fully-equipped sports field with synthetic turf. This will be the subject of talks with the starosty, noticed Joachim Adamczyk. PKE SA Management Board has got their opinions on this matter so we will work on the optimum solution for both parties. I am of the opinion that it would be of great benefit if not only the sports facilities but also the old school location could serve the local community. But at this point we need to be aware of certain procedures we have to follow.
In today’s agreement there is a provision that the old school facilities are to be used by the students of the new school for at least 3 years so till the end of the schooling cycle, added Henryk Jaroszek. And similarly, the training will take place in the power plant. Yet we wish to take over the entire output of the school: the traditions, memorabilia, old photographs – in a word everything that is part of the school history. The most important issues were dealt with today and we still have time to settle other matters inclusive of the manner the old school facilities will be utilized in.
