Dry fly ash from the boilers removal system Has been in operation in PKE SA Jaworzno III Power Plant since 1990s. Thanks to the ash segregation installation erected in 2006, a construction material is produced, namely the fly ash for the concrete certified to be compliant with the norm PN - EN 450 -, issued by the Building Research Institute and marked with CE sign.
The product is used in the concrete, cement industry as well as for the production of the concrete additives. The remaining fly ash, as the waste, is used in the mining industry.
In order to comply with the legal requirements, PKE SA is obliged to generate part of the electric energy with the application of the renewable energy sources – the so-called green energy. Facing these requirements, Jaworzno III commenced co-firing of the biomass, initially in Jaworzno II Power Plant and later in Jaworzno III Power Plant after the construction of the biomass feed system to 200MW power units. The maximum weight share of the biomass in the general fuel stream equals 10%.
In relation to the necessity of ensuring sale continuity of the fly ash for the concrete production the company commenced activities in order to obtain the certificate taking into account the biomass co-firing. The tests concerning the compliance of the fly ash with the norm PN - EN 450 – 1were carried out in the Institute of Ceramics and Building Materials in Opole. 19 physicochemical parameters of the fly ash were tested. In the next stage, the Building Research Institute conducted an audit of the fly ash production system quality. As a result of the aforementioned processes, ITB Warsaw decided to grant the certificate no 1488 – CPD – 0023 which takes into account biomass co-firing in Jaworzno power plant.
The EC certificate of compliance granted in October 2009 for the fly ash for the production of concrete (from co-firing) is a confirmation of the quality guarantee of our product. It enables further production and sales continuity on the domestic market.
