Japanese Delegation in Łaziska Power Plant

From 6th till 8th December 2010, Łaziska Power Plant hosted a group of representatives from Chugoku Electric Power, a Japanese power company, and Hitachi. The visit was a result of the Intent Letter signed on May 6, 2010 under the auspices of the Japanese and Polish governments on the cooperation of Chugoku Electric Power and Tauron Polska Energia.

The mentioned agreement covers the cooperation regarding the construction of new power units, clean-coal technologies and renewable energy sources. The work of Chugoku and Hitachi representatives is financed by the Japanese government. Chugoku Electric Power is one of the leading power companies in Japan and its business operation encompasses power generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy. The head office of the company set up in 1951 is located in Hiroshima. Chugoku company employs almost 10,000 persons and provides electrical energy to over 5 million end-users.

Chugoku operates various types of plants: 12 thermal power plants, 97 hydroelectric power plants and one nuclear power plant. The total installed capacity of all the plants amounts to 11,986 MW. In addition, the company utilizes 8,297 km of the transmission lines, 464 electrical substations of various voltage as well as the distribution lines of the total length exceeding 81,000 km.

The main visit objective for the Japanese delegation was to investigate the technical condition of Łaziska 200 MW power units and the new power unit construction plans. The guests were officially greeted by: Joachim Adamczyk – Łaziska Power Plant Managing Director and Marek Bujny Łaziska Power Plant Technical Director who gave a presentation of the plant with particular emphasis on the 200 MW power units.

The technical inspection commenced with a site visit to power unit no 9 in two working groups: the boiler group and the turbine group. The second day was devoted to the issues concerning the new power unit construction plans in Łaziska Power Plant. Henryk Tymowski – PKE SA Management Board Vice-chairman also took part in the discussions. The third day’s agenda included the summary of the meetings held by the two working groups. The guest welcomed the invitation to the Museum of the Power Industry.

During the closing meeting the Japanese representatives obliged to draw up a report prior to the planned second visit to be held at the end of January 2011. This visit will entirely be devoted to the matters regarding the construction of the new power unit.
