On January 19, TAURON Wytwarzanie S.A. signed an agreement with the Ministry of Economy (as an intermediary institution for the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment 2007- 2013) for the subsidy with regard to the construction of the biomass-fired boiler in Jaworzno III Power Plant – Power Plant II.
The agreement was signed by: on behalf of the Ministry of Economy – the undersecretary of state Ilona Antoniszyn – Klik, and on behalf of TAURON Wytwarzanie - Stanisław Tokarski – Chairman of the Management Board and Piotr Kołodziej – vice-chairman of the Management Board.
Investments in generation capacity based on the biomass firing are one of the TAURON Group Generation Area strategic objectives. Within the framework of the creation of the sustainable generation portfolio we are planning to put into operation generation capacity of 240 MW based on these fuels by the end of 2020. These will be units which are designed to fire biomass only, said Joanna Schmid, vice-chairman of TAURON Polska Energia Management Board, Chief Strategy & Business Development Officer.
The power unit firing renewable energy sources will consist of a modern and sustainable biomass-fired boiler, auxiliary equipment and complete biomass storage and feed system. With the 100% load the boiler will combust up to 50 tons of biomass per hour which in case of operation at the level of 75-80 percent will amount to the biomass consumption reaching 360 thousand tons per year. The unit will fire forest biomass (up to 80 percent: wood silvers and wood pellets) and agriculture biomass the so-called agro-biomass (up to 20 percent: canola pellets, canola straw pellets, bran pellets, grain slurry, sunflower seed and hull pellets, canola cake).the rated capacity of the new circulating fluidized-bed boiler will amount to 210 tons of steam per hour. The unit, in accordance with the plan, will be put into operation before the end of 2012.
In May 2010 the companies of TAURON Group which at present constitute TAURON Wytwarzanie ) (Południowy Koncern Energetyczny and Stalowa Wola Power Plant) submitted motions for the subsidy for the two investments projects as part of the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment 2007- 2013. Both projects i.e. the construction of the biomass-fired boiler in Jaworzno and RES unit in Stalowa Wola were granted circa 40 million PLN each. The first agreement concerning the investment project carried out in Stalowa Wola was signed on November 29, 2011. (red)
