1998 - 2000

• June 1998
  The Minister of Economy allowed a possibility to form a few strong capital groups in the power industry.
• July 1999
  Five power plants from the south of Poland commenced the negotiations concerning the foundation of the company.
• 3rd of March 2000
  The agreement concerning the organization of preparatory works for the formation of a corporation of five power plants is signed and an attorney is appointed.
• 18th of April 2000
  The Minister of the Treasury’s consent to the formation of a company.
• 24th of May 2000
  The Foundation Act of the Southern Poland Power Company, Joint-Stock Company (Południowy Koncern Energetyczny Spółka Akcyjna) is signed by the representatives of the management boards of five power plants: Elektrownia “Jaworzno III” SA, Elektrownia “Łaziska” SA, Elektrownia “Łagisza” SA, Elektrownia “Siersza” SA, Elektrownia “Halemba” SA.

A few weeks later two other entities joined the group : Elektrociepłownia “Katowice” SA (Combined Heat and Power Plant “Katowice”) and Elektrownia “Blachownia” SA (Power Plant “Blachownia”).
