In 2008, the Southern Poland Power Company Plc. generated 212 161 MWh of electric energy applying the method of biomass co-firing.
The coal consumption decrease enabling CO2 emission reduction by 192 540 ton occurred due to constantly increasing bio-mass share in the in the overall fuel consumption. From 2005 to 2008 thanks to biomass co-firing over 650,000 tons of CO2 were not emitted to the atmosphere. What is more, the volume of the ‘green energy’ generated amounted to 616,000 MWh.
The annex to the electric energy generation license as owned by the Southern Poland Power Company and received in January permits the increase of the biomass share in the general fuel stream up to 10% in the two biggest power plants owned by the company: ‘Jaworzno’ and ‘Laziska’.
Therefore, the generation of ‘green energy’ will go up and the emission of CO2 will go down: in other words – the amount of unemitted (thus least harmful) CO2 will be significantly bigger.
