Reward of the White Tiger for technology

2005.10.12

Technology of preparing and burning animal meat and bone meal ecologically, which is used  by Jaworzno II power plant (the power station belongs to Jaworzno III power plant), was rewarded with the Laurel  of the White Tiger in the competition organized by Promoting Energy Agency. Awards were handed on 5 October during the solemn gala which accompanied EUROPOWER 2005 conference. The Laurel for PKE was taken by the director of Jaworzno III power plant, Joachim Adamczyk.

Thanks to application of the rewarded system with the Laurel of the White Tiger, which is used for preparing energy fuel including animal meat and bone meal , Jaworzno II power plant produces green energy according to the licenceand also receives for producing it the certificates of origin.

This kind of production is not connected with additional use of biomass which has forest origin. Furthermore, the coal is saved. Measurements of emission of damaging substances into the atmosphere may confirm that it is the ecological process.
The process fulfils severe demands in the field of protection of the environment as well as veterinary regulations. The technology was put into practice in Jaworzno II power plant in August 2004.

PKE S.A. has already three licences for producing energy from biomass in their power plants:

  • in Siersza power plant this energy is produced on units no 1 and 2 according to the method which is based on burning meant and bone meal and basic fuel  - all in all 2 x 12 MWe = 24 MW;

  • in Łaziska power plant by using the method of burning vegetable biomass and basic fuel:  : 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 = 32 MW;

  • in Jaworzno III power plant ( Jaworzno II power plant) by using the method of burning meant and bone meal and basic fuel: 7 + 7 = 14 MW.

Poland is obligated to increase the percentage share of energy from renewable sources in the structure of consumption of energy. For performing the obligations our legislative regulations (Energy Law and decree of Minister of Economy and Labour) introduced mechanisms of support for the energy in the form of turnover principles: certifications of origin and also imposed the duty of selling energy from renewable sources for final consumer.

            In 2005 final consumers might use 3,1 percent, but in 2010 – 9 percent of green energy. The document confirming its production is the certificate of origin, which was issued by the Chairman of Energy Regulatory Office. In the case when the producer does not produce required quantity of green energy in his devices, the producer will have to purchase needed certifications of origin on the exchange.
